With life as we know it, we grow up, fall in love, marry, have children, (sometimes not in that particular order), raise them to the best of our ability and then slowly, hesitantly, we let them spread their wings and fly...then we have empty nest syndrome. That is exactly what happened to me and how Doodleburg began.
With the children grown and out of the house, I was feeling like I simply didn’t have enough to do. With my love of animals, I decided to begin breeding dogs. I have bred German Shorthair Pointers and after retiring our dam, took a break and finished raising my children.
I did my research on so many breeds and kept coming back to poodles. I had a very lovable and intelligent miniature poodle named Jacques when I was growing up. He was so smart and his memory stayed with me through my life. I talked with many people about breeds and kept coming back to poodles. I have a large home on nearly ¾ of an acre so there is ample room for dogs. I decided on Standard Poodles and my adventure began.
My first purchase was Raine in November of 2008. She came to us from Chicago, Illinois. As a puppy she was a gorgeous red poodle but has lightened into a soft apricot. She is kind, gentle and very affectionate. She has proven to be a wonderful mother with the two pups that she whelped. She was not able to conceive more than one pup per litter and I decided to retire her and place her in a new home. She is now living with a retired gentle man who has made her the center of his world. She is no longer a princess, but the queen of his castle. I am so happy that she has a wonderful forever home.
From there, my doodleburg family grew from not just poodles, but goldendoodles and labradoodles too. Raine, Bella, Lillee, Gracie, Paris and Daisee are all retired. They have been placed in their forever homes. Currently I have Mischief, Violet, Harley, Georgia, Miss Blossom and Honey as my breeding females. My males have been placed in guardian homes and come for visits from time to time.
